Emil Nolde at BELVEDERE

"Emil Nolde - In Radiance and Colour" at the LOWER BELVEDERE presents works from all creative periods, ranging from his early garden paintings informed by Impressionism, biblical subjects, and illustrations of legends to pastels painted in the South Seas, the Unpainted Pictures, which he conceived while he was forbidden to paint during the reign of the Nazis, and his late flower compositions. These works are complemented by a number of the artist’s prints, as well as selected works by such Austrian painters as Oskar Kokoschka and Herbert Boeckl, who drew their inspirations from Nolde’s art. From Oct 25, 2013 to Feb 02, 2014.

"LIKE IT!" at ESSL MUSEUM

With "LIKE IT" the ESSL MUSEUM is presenting the first exhibition created and curated by members of a social network. In the run-up, on the Essl Museum’s Facebook page it was possible to vote for the works to be shown in the exhibition. The show was then curated by a group of six guest curators, who were likewise selected through Facebook. During the course of a two-day workshop at the Essl Museum the group developed a curatorial concept and choose from the 30 most liked works, many of which are part of extensive work series. With the knowledge that is being gained through this experiment, the Essl Museum hopes to develop new participatory approaches.Wed, 23.10.2013 - Mon, 06.01.2014.

Artists: Markus Bacher, Emöke Bada, Astrid Bechtold, Suzana Brborovic, Michele C. Bressan, Amina Broggi, James Connelly, Michal Czinege, Andreas Golder, Dorothee Golz, Christian Gonzenbach, Mira Gáberová, Patricia Jagicza, Andrea Kalinova, Brian Montuori, Martin Mrzljak, Lucia Papco, Pavle Pavlovic, Irina Polin, Zlatan Vehabovic, Barbara Vögel, Clemens Wolf, Osama Zatar

Guest curators: Catharina Bamberger, Daniela Chana, Claudia König, Andreas Maurer, Tobias Sckaer, Michael Wurmitzer

Warhol / Basquiat at KUNSTFORUM

KUNSTFORUM shows works by Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. In the years 1984/85, the collaboration of the two artists produced a number of joint works: Warhol’s emblematic, concentrated personal touch versus the spontaneous wildness of Basquiat. Individual works are on show as well: Warhol’s works, primarily taken from his parallel periods of creativity, and major works by Basquiat: paintings and drawings produced between 1981 and 1986. Oct 16, 2013 - Feb 02, 2014.

DREAMING RUSSIA at ALBERTINA

"Dreaming Russia" at ALBERTINA allows unique insight into contemporary Russian art. Many of the artists presented here can be seen for the first time in Austria, although they are already successful and well-known in their homeland. Thanks to a cooperative project with Gazprombank, it is now possible for the Albertina to present the current artistic work coming from Russia. Oct 12 to Dez 1,2013.

Artists: Yuri Albert / Nikita Alexeev / Sergey Bratkov / Olga Chernysheva / Ivan Chuikov / Alexander Djikia / Daria Irincheeva / Irina Korina / Sergey Ogurtsov / Alexandra Paperno / Sergey Shestakov / Vadim Zakharov / Arseniy Zhilyaev

12. Oktober 2013 - 1. Dezember 2013.

GREENPEACE activists protested in front of the ALBERTINA against GAZPROM. "The protest is not against Russia, the Albertina or against the artists, whose works are shown, but against Gazprom. "Drilling for oil in the arctic endangers one of the last intact ecosystems of the earth. We also urge Gazprom to do all it can to free the Arctic 30. "Dreaming Russia" is sponsored by Gazprombank, owned partly by Gazprom. Sign the petition >>

Petition unterschreiben >>
