Oswald Oberhuber at 21er Haus

Preview of the Oswald Oberhuber retrospective at the 21er Haus, that shows his prolific output from the late 1940s to the present through approximately 300 works, including informal sculpture, drawings and paintings, collages, assemblages, language and number pictures, big fabric works, and many more. Oswald Oberhuber (b. 1931) – artist, exhibition maker, gallery owner, professor and rector of the University of Applied Arts Vienna – is one of the most influential living Austrian artists: “People shouldn’t develop a style; really, every image should be new. At some point, you get into a routine and know how things will turn out. As soon as I feel like that, I’m bored.” The exhibition Oswald Oberhuber is being compiled in close collaboration with the artist, and is curated by Luisa Ziaja and Alfred Weidinger. March 9th - June 26th, 2016.

Body, Psyche, and Taboo at mumok

The mumok takes a fresh look at the Vienna Actionism by relating it to equally radical positions taken by some of its Austrian predecessors from the early twentieth century. This show is a presentation of both the intellectual and the formal links between Vienna Actionism and artistic developments in the early twentieth century. Works by the scandal artists of the 1960s, are compared and contrasted with pieces by their equally controversial colleagues working at the dawn of the twentieth century. The range of works includes iconic pieces of classical modernist art from the Leopold Museum, the Albertina, the Belvedere, the Austrian Theater Museum, the Vienna Museum, the Kokoschka Archive at the Vienna University of Applied Arts, the Friedrichhof Collection, and further loans from private collections in Austria. Curated by Eva Badura-Triska. March 3rd - May 16th, 2016.

Artists: Gustav Klimt, Richard Gerstl, Oskar Kokoschka, Koloman Moser, Max Oppenheimer, Egon Schiele – Günter Brus, Otto Muehl, Hermann Nitsch und Rudolf Schwarzkogler.

Jahrhunderts deutlich. Zahlreiche österreichische Museen und Sammlungen unterstützen das Projekt mit großzügigen Leihgaben: Leopold Museum, Albertina, Belvedere, Österreichisches Theatermuseum, Wien Museum, Kokoschka-Zentrum in der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien, Sammlung Friedrichshof und weiteren Leihgaben aus österreichischem Privatbesitz. Kuratiert von Eva Badura-Triska. 04.03-16.05.2016.
