Carl Spitzweg, Erwin Wurm at LEOPOLD MUSEUM

Some 130 years after Carl Spitzweg's death, the Leopold Museum is dedicating the first comprehensive exhibition in Austria complemented by works created by the Austrian sculptor and photographic artist Erwin Wurm. The German artist Spitzweg (1808–1885) was a humorous and critical analyst of his time whose ironic works depict petit bourgeois and odd characters within their illusory Biedermeier world. The juxtaposition of the two artists’ works illustrates how they both deploy humor in order to analyze their respective eras in a critical manner. Curator: Hans-Peter Wipplinger. March 25th to June 19th, 2017.

Kurator: Hans-Peter Wipplinger. 25.03. – 19.06.2017.
