Herbert Brandl at Belvedere 21

The exhibition Herbert Brandl – Exposed to Painting at Belvedere 21 focuses on work produced over the past two decades, including pieces that the artist has created especially for this exhibition. With his large-format imagery, Herbert Brandl ranks alongside the most successful contemporary painters in Austria. Landscape as a subject has always been dominant in his work, which alternates between painterly abstraction and objectivity. Since the turn of the new millennium, Brandl’s passion for the monumentality of mountainscapes has become increasingly apparent. Using various formats and techniques, the painter has reinterpreted the subject of mountains, playing with expressive gestures, abstract color spaces, and massive shapes. Curated by Rolf H. Die Ausstellung "Herbert Brandl – Exposed to Painting. Die letzten zwanzig Jahre" im Belvedere 21 präsentiert Arbeiten der vergangenen beiden Jahrzehnte bis hin zu Werken, die der Künstler eigens für die Ausstellung schafft. Mit seinen großformatigen Bilderwelten zählt Herbert Brandl zu den erfolgreichsten österreichischen Malern der Gegenwart. Das Sujet Landschaft nimmt von Anfang an einen dominierenden Stellenwert in seinem Werk ein, das zwischen malerischer Abstraktion und Gegenständlichkeit changiert. Ab der Jahrtausendwende wird Brandls Begeisterung für die Monumentalität der Bergwelt verstärkt wahrnehmbar. In unterschiedlichen Formaten und Techniken interpretiert der Maler das Bergmotiv neu und spielt dabei mit expressiven Gesten, abstrakten Farbräumen und mächtigen Formgebilden. Kuratiert von Rolf H.
