The Animal Within/Das Tier in Dir at mumok

In the mumok exhibition The Animal Within the animal as a motif serves as a starting point to get to a materialist understanding of art and life. The mumok collection contains nearly five hundred works related to animals—a considerable quantity that raises the question of what kind of zoo the museum in fact is. What is kept, researched, and displayed both here and there to protect “wild life” and the “freedom of art”? And in whose interest? In der mumok Ausstellung Das Tier in Dir dient das Tier als Motiv als Ausgangspunkt, um zu einem materialistischen Verständnis von Kunst und Leben zu gelangen. Die mumok Sammlung beinhaltet knapp fünfhundert Werke, die mit Tieren zu tun haben – eine beachtliche Anzahl, die die Frage aufwirft, was für ein Zoo eigentlich das Museum ist. Was wird hier wie dort verwahrt, beforscht und zur Schau gestellt, um die „Freiheit der Kunst“ und das „wild life“ zu schützen? Und in wessen Interesse? Jennifer Tee, Anna Daučíková, Lieselott Beschorner at SECESSION

In her exhibition Still Shifting, Mother Field ,at the Main hall of the SECESSION Jennifer Tee probes fundamental questions about where we belong, about spirituality and transcendence. Tee combines collages and sculptures including ceramic domes, knitted floor objects, and textile coverings with performance art to uncover the fragile entanglements of life. Anna Daučíková is a pioneer of feminist-queer art in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Two recent video works form the thematic framework of the exhibition. At the center of both works is the search for a prototypical, non-verbal language. The title of Lieselott Beschorner’s exhibition In the Breath of Time is a direct reference to the environment in which her work comes into existence. The Secession is excited to host her exhibition featuring recent creations as well as selected pieces from earlier periods of her oeuvre. Until Nov 6th, 2022.

Jennifer Tee untersucht in ihrer Ausstellung Still Shifting, Mother Field in der Haupthalle der SECESSION grundlegende Fragen nach unserer Verortung, Spiritualität und Transzendenz. Tee kombiniert Collagen, Skulpturen, darunter Keramik-Kuppeln, gestrickte Bodenobjekte und textile Hüllen, und Performance, um den fragilen Verflechtungen des Lebens nachzugehen. Anna Daučíková ist eine Pionierin feministisch-queerer Kunst in der Slowakei und in Tschechien. Den thematischen Rahmen der Ausstellung bilden zwei neuere Videoarbeiten in deren Mittelpunkt die Suche nach einer prototypischen, nonverbalen Sprache steht. Mit dem Titel ihrer Ausstellung Im Atem der Zeit stellt Lieselott Beschorner einen direkten Bezug auf ihr Umfeld her, aus dem heraus sich ihr Werk entwickelt. Die Secession freut sich, jüngste Arbeiten der Künstlerin zusammen mit ausgewählten Arbeiten aus früheren Schaffensperioden zu präsentieren. Bis 06.11.2022.

AUGENBLICK! im Wien Museum MUSA

The focus of the exhibition „INSTANTLY! Vienna Street Photography at Wien Museum MUSA is the developing gaze on big city life, from the 1860s to the present. In addition to iconic images of Vienna that capture decisive moments in urban life, the show presents numerous never-before-exhibited or published photographs that bring the city’s everyday life as well as the lives of its inhabitants to the fore: impressive street scenes, intimate snapshots, and fleeting glimpses of urban life from early urban photography to the Instagram aesthetics of the present. Most of the works come from the photo collection of the Wien Museum, which showcases its vast holdings like never before. They capture the hustle and bustle on streets, squares, and markets, uncover unexpected encounters, and document moments of indolence and pleasure. May 19th to Oct 23rd,2022.

Im Mittelpunkt der Schau „AUGENBLICK! Straßenfotografie in Wien“ im Wien Museum MUSA steht der Blick auf die sich verändernde Großstadt und das Leben auf Wiens Straßen von den 1860er Jahren bis heute. Der Großteil der fotografischen Arbeiten stammt aus den Beständen des Wien Museums, das mit diesem Projekt zum ersten Mal seine große Fotosammlung in ihrer ganzen Breite vorstellt.Neben ikonischen Bildern der Stadt, die entscheidende Augenblicke des urbanen Lebens festhalten, werden zahlreiche noch nie ausgestellte und veröffentlichte Aufnahmen präsentiert, die den Alltag Wiens und das Leben seiner Bewohner*innen auf faszinierende Weise lebendig werden lassen: eindrucksvolle Straßenszenen, intime Schnappschüsse und flüchtige Momentaufnahmen des städtischen Lebens von der frühen Stadtfotografie bis zur Instagram-Ästhetik der Gegenwart .
