Martin Roth at KUNST HAUS WIEN

For the installation at KUNST HAUS WIEN, the Austrian artist Martin Roth (1977-2019) has filled the entire floor of the "garage" with rubble and sculptural pieces - wild plants settle in the gaps - and stimulates the setting with a sound installation: The main sounds are birds that imitate technically produced sounds such as ring tones, car noise, sirens, etc. - an echo of our industrialized life. Roth has taken up themes of dislocation, substitution, decay, inequality and disorder in a network of relationships between artist / recipient, human / animal / nature and time / space and created subtle symbolic images of the state of our world. In october 2019 I listened to animals imitating humans. is his first museum exhibition in Austria, which the artist conceived this spring before his early, unexpected death in his adopted home New York. Für die Installation im KUNST HAUS WIEN hat der österreichische Künstler Martin Roth (1977–2019) den gesamten Boden der „Garage“ mit Bauschutt und skulpturalen Bruchstücken angefüllt – in den Lücken siedeln sich wilde Pflanzen an – und mit einer Soundinstallation versetzt: Zu hören sind vor allem Vögel, die technisch hergestellte Geräusche wie Klingeltöne, Autolärm, Sirenen, etc. imitieren – ein Nachhall unseres industrialisierten Lebens. Roth hat in einem Beziehungsgeflecht von Künstler/Rezipient, Mensch/Tier/Natur und Zeit/Raum Themen von Dislokation, Substitution, Verfall, Ungleichheit und Unordnung aufgegriffen und subtile Symbolbilder vom Zustand unserer Welt geschaffen. In october 2019 I listened to animals imitating humans. ist seine erste museale Ausstellung in Österreich, die der Künstler noch vor seinem frühzeitigen, unerwarteten Ableben in seiner Wahlheimat New York dieses Frühjahr konzipierte. Still Life, Obstinacy of Things at KUNST HAUS WIEN

The large theme-based photo graphy exhibition Still Life, Obstinacy of Things at KUNST HAUS WIEN with a selection of international and Austrian artists highlights today’s radical re-examination of this genre as a new field of experimentation for artistic expression. The exhibition features a younger generation of artists who are reflecting our very own ‘present’ in their photographs. They do so by precisely perceiving and meticulously examining the world of objects that surrounds us, with all its peculiarities, beauty, and ugliness. While some have chosen aggressively to combine highend consumer products with garbage and trash, others focus on things utterly over looked: worlds of objects that act as the traces of our everyday world with an often idiosyncratic beauty – which is precisely why they reward a closer examination. As we slow down the pace with which we contemplate them, these new still lifes counterbalance the glut of digital images that submerge our everyday lives, creating spaces in which our quotidian objects encounter things both novel and unfamiliar. 13.09.18-17.02.19.

Die große fotografische Themenausstellung Stillleben – Eigensinn der Dinge im KUNST HAUS WIEN zeigt mit einer Auswahl internationaler und österreichischer Positionen historische Entwicklungslinien auf – von Jan Groover über Christopher Williams und Leo Kandl bis hin zu Harun Farocki –, die zu der aktuell greifbaren radikalen Neubefragung des Genres als neues Experimentierfeld für künstlerischen Ausdruck geführt haben. Vor allem präsentiert die Ausstellung eine jüngere Generation an Künstlerinnen und Künstlern, die unsere „Gegenwart“ in ihren Bildern spiegeln. Sie tun das, indem sie die uns umgebende Ding-Welt mit ihren Absonderlichkeiten, ihrer Schön- und Hässlichkeit präzise wahrnehmen und untersuchen. Die einen kombinieren High-End-Konsumprodukte offensiv mit Müll und Trash. Andere fokussieren gerade auf die übersehenen Dinge – Objektwelten, die in oft eigenwilliger Schönheit als Spuren unseres täglichen Lebens fungieren und auf die zu blicken sich gerade deshalb lohnt. In dieser Verlangsamung des Sehens schaffen die neuen Stillleben einen Gegenpol zu den überbordenden digitalen Bilderfluten unserer Zeit und zugleich Räume, in denen die Dinge unseres Alltags auf neue, uns unvertraute Weisen sichtbar werden. 13.09.18-17.02.19.

Rinko Kawauchi at KUNST HAUS

KUNST HAUS WIEN opens its photography focus with Rinko Kawauchi - Illuminance. With her camera, Kawauchi captures elementary and casual moments. Her attention to small gestures and coincidental details, all with the same passionate concentration, enables her to cast a gaze of enchantment upon her daily surroundings that is always fresh and new. This leads her to the fundamental cycles of life and the apparently unintentional order of nature within formal structures. Kawauchi created a new body of work for this exhibition, for which she undertook a voyage to Austria in December 2014 which led her to a gold smelting plant and to the glaciers of the Dachstein Mountain, among others. March 20th to July 5th, 2015-

Das KUNST HAUS WIEN eröffnet seinen Schwerpunkt Fotografie Rinko Kawauchi - Illuminance. Kawauchi fängt mit ihrer Kamera elementare sowie beiläufige Momente ein und erforscht dabei das Besondere im Alltäglichen, dies führt sie schließlich zu den fundamentalen Kreisläufen des Lebens und der scheinbar unabsichtlichen Ordnung der Natur in formalen Strukturen. Eigens für diese Ausstellung entstand eine neue Werkgruppe, wofür die Künstlerin im Dezember 2014 eine Reise nach Österreich unternahm. Ihre Suche nach der Essenz der Welt führte sie dabei unter anderem in eine Goldschmelze und in die Gletscherwelt des Dachsteins. 20. März – 5. Juli 2015.
