Gustav Klimt at LEOPOLD MUSEUM

The Leopold Museum is dedicating a comprehensive exhibition to the “artist of the century” Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) during 2018’s commemorative year of Viennese Modernism. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Klimt’s death, the presentation retraces his artistic transformation from a painter espousing late historicism to becoming the most eminent exponent of the Vienna Secession. The presentation curated by Hans-Peter Wipplinger in collaboration with Sandra Tretter features works from the collections of the Leopold Museum and the Leopold Private Collection, exhibits from the Klimt Foundation, new works given to the Leopold Museum by a Klimt descendant as a permanent loan, as well as select loans from Austrian and international collections. 22.06.2018 – 04.11.2018.

Das Leopold Museum widmet dem „Jahrhundertkünstler“ Gustav Klimt (1862-1918), im Rahmen des Wiener Moderne-Themenjahres 2018, eine umfassende Ausstellung. Die Schau macht, anlässlich des 100. Todestages Klimts, dessen künstlerische Wandlung vom späten Historismus hin zum bedeutendsten Vertreter der Wiener Secession, eindrucksvoll nachvollziehbar. Die von Hans-Peter Wipplinger in Zusammenarbeit mit Sandra Tretter kuratierte Präsentation zeigt neben den Beständen des Leopold Museum und der Privatsammlung Leopold, Sammlungsexponate der Klimt-Foundation, Werke einer neuen, dem Museum überantworteten Dauerleihgabe eines Klimt-Nachfahren sowie ausgewählte nationale und internationale Leihgaben. 22.06.2018 – 04.11.2018.

Gustav Klimt's Cartoons for Stoclet House at MAK

For the 150th anniversary of Gustav Klimt's birthday the MAK puts the nine cartoons for the mosaic frieze in the dining hall of Stoclet House, Brussels, at the center of the exhibition "GUSTAV KLIMT: Expectation and Fulfillment". After several years of restoration, the cartoons are now again presented in the Permanent Collection. The exhibition is completed with drawings of various design pieces for the Stoclet House by architect Joseph Hoffmann and works by other artists of the Wiener Werkstätte, who contributed to this gesamtkunstwerk. Until July 15, 2012.

Die Ausstellung GUSTAV KLIMT: ERWARTUNG UND ERFÜLLUNG im MAK zeigt die Entwurfszeichnungen zum Mosaikfries im Palais Stoclet, die zu den wichtigsten Exponaten des Museums zählen. Nach mehrjähriger Restaurierung sind die neun Kartons jetzt wieder in der MAK-Schausammlung präsentiert. 
Die Schau gibt Einblicke in den Entstehungsprozess des Frieses und Klimts Arbeitsweise und zeigt die Familie Stoclet als wesentlichem Auftraggeber der Wiener Werkstätte in Entwurfszeichnungen von Joseph Hoffmann und anderen Künstlern für das Gesamtkunstwerk des Palais. 21.03.2012 - 15.07.2012

Gustav Klimt. The Drawings at ALBERTINA

In celebration of Gustav Klimt's 150th birthday the ALBERTINA is showing 130 of its famous Klimt holdings, which consist of 170 sheets, supplemented by loans from Austrian and international collections. The exhibition features a rich spectrum of works from all phases of his artistic career giving insight into the work methods and the mental and emotional universe of an artist who practically never spoke about his art. Until 10 June 2012. The exhibition will also be shown from 3 July to 23 September 2012 in the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.

Anlässlich des 150. Geburtstages von Gustav Klimt zeigt die ALBERTINA 130 Blätter aus der Sammlung ergänzt durch ausgewählte Leihgaben. Die Schau gibt einen Überblick über alle Arbeitsphasen des Künstlers. Zur Ausstellung ist ein umfangreicher Katalog erschienen. Bis 10. Juni 2012.

Klimt: Up Cose and Personal at Leopold Museum

Celebrating Gustav Klimt’s 150th birthday the exhibition focuses on chief works from the Leopold Museum’s own collection, accompanied by early works and singular loans (mostly his famous landscapes) from important Austrian and international collections, as well as drawings from all periods of his artistic career. The show is complemented by numerous contemporary photographs, items from his own art and furniture collection, personal memorabilia and approximately 400 written documents sent by Klimt to his life’s companion Emilie Flöge. Additionaly part of Klimt’s studio has been reconstructed. Until Aug 27, 2012.

Anlässlich Gustav Klimts 150 Geburtstag nähert sich das Leopold Museum der Person des Künstlers nicht nur über Schlüsselwerke aus der eigenen und ausgewählten Gemälden, vornehmlich seine berühmten Landschaften, aus anderen wichtigen Sammlungen, an. Neben Zeichnungen aus allen Schaffensperioden werden auch zahlreiche zeitgenössische Fotografien, Stücke aus Klimts eigener Kunstsammlung und persönliche Memorabilien und vor allem ca. 400 Briefe und Postkarten an seine Lebensgefährtin Emilie Flöge gezeigt und Teile seines Ateliers in der Josefstädter Straße wurden mit Originalmöbeln rekonstruiert. Zur Ausstellung ist ein umfangreicher Katalog erschienen. 24.02. - 27.08.2012

Gustav Klimt / Josef Hoffmann Pioneers of Modernism at Belvedere

The Belvedere introduces the Gustav Klimt Year 2012, his 150th birthday, with the exhibition "Gustav Klimt / Josef Hoffmann Pioneers of Modernism", showing joined projects of both artists. Over two decades - from the famous Beethoven exhibition at the Vienna Secession in 1902 to the Stoclet Palace - Klimt and Hoffmann tried to bring to life their vision of an art that was meant to touch all spheres of life. Klimt was painting pictures exactly for the interiors created by Hoffmann, while Hoffmann designed tapestry and furniture to compliment Klimt's works. Curator Alfred Weidinger has reconstructed and rebuild several spaces to give the viewer a good impression of the original intensions of Klimt and Hoffmann. The cooperation with artist of the "Wiener Werkstätten" and belgian colleagues also takes up some room in the exhibition. From Oct 25, 2011 until Mar 4, 2012.

Im Vorfeld des Gustav Klimt Jahres 2012, sein 150. Geburtstag, zeigt das Belvedere in der Ausstellung "Gustav Klimt / Josef Hoffmann Pioniere der Moderne" die gemeinsamen Projekte die Klimt und Hoffmann verwirklichten. Von dem von Hoffmann geplanten und realisierten ersten Gesamtkunstwerk in Wien, der Beethoven-Ausstellung in der Secession 1902, für die Klimt den Beethovenfries schuf bis zum Palais Stoclet strebten beide nach dem Gleichklang zwischen bildender und angewandter Kunst. Auch der Zusammenarbeit mit Künstlern der Wiener Werkstätten und belgischen Kollegen wird breiter Raum eingeräumt. Dass Klimt seine Bilder im Wissen um die von Hoffmann konzipierten Räume schuf und Hoffmann die Werke Klimts durch moderne Wandgestaltung und Einrichtungsgegenstände inszenierte vermittelt Kurator Alfred Weidinger durch die aufwändige Ausstellungsarchitektur und Rekonstruktionen nach historischen Fotos und Originalplänen. Belvedere - Rediscover 544 Masterpieces

The new presentation of the permanent collection in the Upper Belvedere features not only the well known favorites but also some hidden gems. The rooms are much lighter and brighter now and from the middleages though to the 20th century the artworks are newly arranged and put together – Austrian art is presented in an international context.

Die permanente Sammlung im Obere Belvedere präsentiert sich nicht nur heller, leichter, freundlicher, sie ist auch völlig neu geordnet und stellt die Kunstwerke vom Mittelalter bis zur Mitte des 20sten Jahrhunderts in neue Zusammenhänge – die Österreichische Kunst ist jetzt in ihrer Wechselwirkung mit den internationalen Kunstströmungen zu sehen.
