Gerwald Rockenschaub at Belvedere 21

Gerwald Rockenschaub's work follows the principle of reducing elements, structures, and color contrasts to only the essential. The works of the radical minimalist are simple and precise but also complex. At the main room of the Belvedere 21 are 24 monitors hanging on three gray walls. On the screens you can see short animated videos with simple geometrical forms in bright colors, which remind you at early computer games. Infront of the walls are two long benches and a high desk for the viewer. The Installation interacts with the architecture of the museum and the screens point to painting and museal hanging of pictures. Curated by Axel Köhne. 25.11.2022 - 12.03.2023.

Gerwald Rockenschaubs Werk ist geprägt durch das Prinzip der Reduktion auf wenige, aber wesentliche Elemente, Strukturen und Farbkontraste. Die Arbeiten des radikalen Minimalisten sind einfach und präzis, aber komplex. Auf drei grauen Wänden im Hauptraum des Belvedere 21 hängen insgesamt 24 Monitore auf denen kurze Videoanimationen mit einfachen geometrischen Formen und oft grelle kontrastierende Farben zu sehen sind. Zwei lange Sitzbänke und ein Stehpult vor den Wänden ergänzen die Ausstellung. Die Installation reagiert auf die Architektur des 21er Hauses, die 2dimensionalen Monitore mit Rahmen und „Bild“ nehmen Bezug auf Malerei und museale Bilderhängung.
