THE POLAROID PROJECT at WESTLICHT presents some 200 Polaroids ranging from the well-known SX-70 snapshot with its large frame (8.8×10.7 cm) to the fascinatingly detailed 20×24-inch large format (50×60 cm) by nearly 100 photographers. For the first time the exhibition explores the Polaroid phenomenon at the intersection of art and technology in its full scope. Outstanding artists — from Ansel Adams to Andy Warhol — seized the medium of instant photography to strike new paths and came to define the aesthetics of an era. The Polaroid Project combines their unique creations with ground-breaking technology—camera specimen, concept studies and prototypes—which made this visual revolution possible in the first place. Vienna, which since 2010 is the new home of the International Polaroid Collection thanks to the initiative of WestLicht founder Peter Coeln, is the first stop of the exhibition in Europe. 18.11.2017–25.02.2018.

THE POLAROID PROJECT im WESTLICHT zeigt ca. 200 Unikate von dem bekannten Polaroid typischen Snapshotformat bis zu seltenen und teuren Großformaten (50x60cm). An der Schnittstelle von Kunst und Technologie zeigt die Ausstellung das Phänomen Polaroid zum ersten Mal in seiner gesamten Breite. Herausragende Künstlerinnen und Künstler – von Ansel Adams bis Andy Warhol – haben im Medium der Sofortbildfotografie neue Wege beschritten und die Ästhetik einer Ära geprägt. Ihren einzigartigen Werken stellt The Polaroid Project mit Kameramodellen, Konzepten und Prototypen jene innovative Technik an die Seite, die diese visuelle Revolution überhaupt erst ermöglichte. Wien – dank der Initiative von Peter Coeln seit 2010 die neue Heimat der International Polaroid Collection – ist die erste Station der Ausstellung in Europa. 18.11.2017–25.02.2018.

WESTLICHT FOTO- & KAMERA-AUKTION 2013

More then 200 photographies will be auctioned at WESTLICHT. Among the lots are an early daguerreotypie by Louis Daguerre (1787–1851), vintage prints by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Frank or prints by austrian photographers like Heinrich Kühn, Inge Morath, Erich Lessing and Franz Hubmann.

21st WestLicht Photographica Auction

Over 200 lots, many in vintage quality, will be presented for sale at the WestLicht Photography Auction. Among these are rare treasures from the dawn of the media, exceptional Austriaca and masterpieces from the American history of photography. Big international names such as Ansel Adams, Helmut Newton, Alexander Rodtschenko, Paul Strand, and Henri Cartier-Bresson can be found, as well as Austrian classics like Trude Fleischmann and Heinrich Kühn. Also contemporary Austrian photographers such as Jakob Lena Knebel, Caroline Heider, Antoine Turillon, Roberta Lima, Elke Liberda, Klaus Pichler and Oliver Ressler will feature in the auction. The Auction will be held at Saturday May 12, 2012.

Über 200 Lose gelangen am 12. Mai 2012 bei der WestLicht Photographica Auction zur Versteigerung - darunter Schätze aus der Frühzeit des Mediums, rare Austriaca und Meisterwerke der amerikanischen Fotogeschichte. Hochkarätige Fotografien internationaler Größen wie Ansel Adams, David Bailey, Wynn Bullock, Harry Callahan, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Yousuf Karsh, Helmut Newton, Alexander Rodtschenko, Paul Strand und Josef Sudek werden neben Österreichischen Klassikern von Heinrich Kühn, Moriz Nähr, Trude Fleischmann, Rudolf Koppitz bis Lothar Rübelt präsentiert. Der gegenwärtigen Fotokunst aus Österreich ist mit Arbeiten von Caroline Heider, Jakob Lena Knebel, Friedl Kubelka, Elke Liberda, Roberta Lima, Klaus Pichler, Oliver Ressler und Antoine Turillon wieder ein Schwerpunkt gewidmet.

FACES OF ETHIOPIA at Westlicht

In cooperation with top photographers Inge Prader, Peter Rigaud, Mattias Ziegler as well as Ricardo Herrgott, aid organisation Menschen für Menschen (People for People), Uschi Fellner (editor of Madonna magazine) and echo medienhaus (publishers) are presenting the exhibition at Westlicht and the publication of a touching photo book, to direct the world's attention to the famine in Ethiopia again. 14.10.2011 - 23.10.2011

Um die Notsituation der Menschen in Äthiopien wieder in das Bewusstsein zu holen organisiert das echo medienhaus gemeinsam mit den Fotografen Inge Prader, Peter Rigaud, Matthias Ziegler und Ricardo Herrgott sowie Uschi Fellner, Herausgeberin der Zeitschrift Madonna, die Ausstellung „Faces of Ethiopia“ im Westlicht zugunsten der Organisation „Menschen für Menschen“. POLAROID [IM]POSSIBLE at Westlicht

Westlicht presents a first cross section of masterpieces from the legendary Polaroid Collections of Europe, which encompasses 4400 pieces by 800 international artists. Especially fascinating are the 50x60cm large formats. A further addition to the show are the works of contemporary artists, such as Nobuyoshi Araki and Daido Moriyama, who have been working with the new Impossible instant image material. Till Aug. 21, 2011.
