At the main hall of the SECESSION US born Kerry James Marshall presents paintings under the title Who's Afraid of Red, Black and Green. The title, a homage to Barnett Newman's work "Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue?" indicates to Marshall's strong relation to the American Color Field artists. He combines the flatness and pure colors with representative and realistic scenes of Black American historical events and daily life painted in „black aesthetics“. UK born Anne Hardy's large format photographies show artificial sets and rooms she builds, using found objects from the street or trash dumps in a sometimes month long process in her studio. The absents of human beings and the strong presence of the remains of their activities adds to the irritation of these still lifes. The show is completed by the video "Ultimate substance" by Anja Kirschner and David Panos. Until Nov 25, 2012.
Die SECESSION zeigt in der Haupthalle Arbeiten des US Amerikaners Kerry James Marshall unter dem Titel Who's Afraid of Red, Black and Green. Damit wird schon der starke Bezug Marshalls zu Barnett Newman und der Amerikanischen Color Field Bewegung angedeuted. Flächigkeit, geometrische Muster und starke reine Farben verbindet er jedoch mit afroamerikanischen Historien- und Alltagsszenen im Stile der „black aesthetics“. Die in Großbritannien geborene Ann Hardy fertigt großformatige Fotos von Szenerien und Räume, die sie in oft monatelanger Arbeit aus Fundstücken und Sperrmüll baut. Blickwinkel, Perspektiven und Spiegelungen irritieren den Betrachter dabei ebenso wie die Abwesenheit von menschlichen Protagonisten, deren Aktivitäten aber umso deutlicher präsent sind. Bis zum 25.
