Tala Madani, Ron Nagle and Lisa Holzer at Secession

Shit Moms is the title both of Tala Madani’s exhibition at the main hall of Secession, her first solo show in Austria, and a new body of work. She deals here with concepts of domestic life and, more specifically, the idea(l)s and (corpo)realities of motherhood. With Nocturn Around Ron Nagle presents a selection of 25 sculptures and drawings from recent years. His small-format ceramic sculptures are simultaneously miniature landscapes, abstract compositions, thoughts turned into form, and visual jokes. At Lisa Holzer's exhibition in the Kabinett the light’s not on. This exhibition needs – no demands grey daylight. On view are radiant pigment prints, they show grapes and grapes in white chocolate. The grapes are huge. I thought wine grapes go well with Austria. Removing the light is a reverse movement to the addition of colour on the mounting of the rails. Shit Moms, der Titel von Tala Madanis Ausstellung im Hauptraum der Secession, ist auch die Bezeichnung einer neuen Werkgruppe der Künstlerin. Sie setzt sich dabei mit Entwürfen häuslichen Lebens und insbesondere mit den Vorstellungen und Idealen sowie der (körperlichen) Wirklichkeit des Mutterseins auseinander. Mit Nocturn Around zeigt Ron Nagle eine Auswahl von 25 Skulpturen und Zeichnungen aus den letzten Jahren. Seine kleinformatigen Skulpturen aus Keramik sind zugleich Miniaturlandschaften, abstrakte Kompositionen, Form gewordene Gedanken oder Bildwitze. Lisa Holzers Ausstellung "Was trägt Sie?" im Kabinett fehlt das Licht. Diese Ausstellung braucht – nein, verlangt graues Tageslicht. Zu sehen sind leuchtende Pigmentdrucke, sehr bunte. Sie zeigen Weintrauben und Weintrauben in weißer Schokolade. Die Trauben sind riesig. Ich dachte, Weintrauben passen gut zu Österreich. Das Licht wegzunehmen ist eine gegenläufige Bewegung zum Hinzufügen der Farbe auf die Befestigung der Geländer. Und doch wird zweimal etwas weggenommen. 23.11.2019 – 09.02.2020.
