ESCAPE THE GOLDEN CAGE ART AFFAIR at Palais Kinsky

ESCAPE THE GOLDEN CAGE's third ART AFFAIR is presenting contemporary international positions of Street Art, Urban Art and Pop Art – this year in the Gewölbekeller of Palais Kinsky. The exhibition runs from the Grand Opening, May 16th to a finissage May 31st, 2013 and includes live painting by Mode 2, concerts, artist talks and other special events.

Participating Artists: Anthony Lister (AUS), Brad Downey (USA), Dan Witz (USA), Ellannah Sadkin (UK), Faith 47 (ZA), Mode 2 (UK), Olivier Hölzl LIVIL (A), Ozmo (I), Stephen Tompkins (USA), Vermibus (ES), XOOOOX (D).

Die dritte Ausgabe der ESCAPE THE GOLDEN CAGE ART AFFAIR findet heuer im Gewölbekeller des Palais Kinsky statt und präsentiert zeitgenössische internationale Positionen von Street Art, Urban Art und Pop Art. Vom Grand Opening am 16. Mai bis zur Finissage am 31.05.2013 finden zahlreiche Events im Rahmen der Ausstellung statt – Live Painting mit Mode 2, Konzerte, Artist Talks und mehr.

Wade Guyton, Guyton\Walker, Kelley Walker at the KUNSTHAUS BREGENZ

Wade Guyton, Guyton\Walker, Kelley Walker at the KUNSTHAUS BREGENZ is the first joint appearance of the three artistic personae together. The artists have always thought of Guyton\Walker as a separate artist, not as a side project and until now the duo’s activities were ring-fenced from their individual careers. Both Wade Guyton and Kelley Walker make use of found signs and images, which they transfer to canvas or wood panels as ink-jet or screen prints or transform into sculptures and installations. But from this the duo often develops paintings, objects, and installations that play with an impression of provisionality, chaos, the unfinished – with liberal quotations from Modernist art, particularly pop. Wade Guyton, Guyton\Walker, Kelley Walker im KUNSTHAUS BREGENZ"> ist der erste gemeinsame, exklusive Auftritt der drei Künstlerpersönlichkeiten. Wade Guyton und Kelley Walker stellten bereits mehrfach zusammen aus, legten aber bisher Wert darauf, dass die Aktivitäten des Duos von ihren Einzelkarrieren strikt zu trennen. In der Präsentation für das KUNSTHAUS BREGENZ, die sowohl einige der X- und Streifenbilder von Wade Guyton als auch die Ziegelsteingemälde und Rorschach-Arbeiten von Kelley Walker einer breiten Öffentlichkeit vorstellen, wird eine strikte räumliche Trennung der drei Künstlerpersönlichkeiten zugunsten eines Zusammenspiels vermieden, das sowohl die Gemeinsamkeiten als auch die Unterschiede herausstellt. 27. A LITTLE MIGHT MUSIC – REPORT FROM THE DEPOT at ESSL MUSEUM

The German curator, museum director, collector and gallerist René Block curated the exhibition at ESSL MUSEUM >A LITTLE MIGHT MUSIC – REPORT FROM THE DEPOT< with works from the Essl Collection, which contains today more than 7,000 works, and focussing on artistic trends of 1960s Austria such as Viennese Actionism, avant-garde tendencies as well as their later impacts. In the title of the exhibition Block ironically refers to the role of the curator, who experiences a feeling of powerlessness considering the flood of images. Block’s selection covers the Vienna avant-garde of the 1960s, with Arnulf Rainer, Oswald Oberhuber, Maria Lassnig and the Viennese Actionists Günter Brus, Otto Muehl, Hermann Nitsch plus works by VALIE EXPORT/Peter Weibel, C.L. Attersee, Franz West, Bruno Gironcoli, Gerhard Rühm, Rudolf Schwarzkogler and Erwin Wurm. 08 May – 18 Aug. 2013

Der deutsche Kurator, Museumsdirektor, Sammler und Galerist René Block kuratierte auf Einladung von Agnes und Karlheinz Essl im ESSL MUSEUM die Ausstellung >EINE KLEINE MACHTMUSIK... Bericht aus dem Depot< aus den Beständen der Sammlung Essl, die zur Zeit mehr als 7.000 Werke umfasst. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf den künstlerischen Tendenzen im Österreich der 1960er, Wiener Aktionismus, Avantgarde und deren Ausläufer. Mit dem Titel nimmt Block augenzwinkernd Bezug auf die ihm wohl bekannte Ohnmacht des Kurators angesichts der Bilderflut. Blocks Auswahl konzentriert sich auf die Wiener Avantgarde der 1960er Jahre mit Arnulf Rainer, Oswald Oberhuber, Maria Lassnig, den Wiener Aktionisten Günter Brus, Otto Muehl und Hermann Nitsch und spannt den Bogen von VALIE EXPORT/Peter Weibel, C.L. Attersee, Franz West, Bruno Gironcoli, Gerhard Rühm und Rudolf Schwarzkogler bis zu Erwin Wurm. 08.05. – 18.08.2013.
