AWAY Stories from abroad

The AWAY exhibition, temporarily located in a former Post and Telegraph Office built in 1910, reveals a panorama of the different temporary residency destinations of artists and their artistic approaches related to those locations, the stimuli provided by a foreign residency grant for their artistic work and its development. The project reflects the enormous efforts made by everyone involved – by the artists, the organisers of the Federal Chancellery and the partner institutions on site. Nov 10th to Dec 10th, 2016.

Film Stills at the ALBERTINA

The ALBERTINA is training the spotlight on the hybrid genre of film stills for the first time, showing 130 photos from between 1910 and the 1970s that represent a cross-section of various historical schools of photography and filmmaking such as Pictorialism, Expressionism, and Art Nouveau. The exhibition is a cooperation of the Albertina and the Austrian Film Museum.

The Poetics of the Material at LEOPLD MUSEUM

What the works assembled in the exhibition "The Poetics of the Material" at LEOPOLD MUSEUM have in common is the utilization of found objects, everyday items and “non-art” materials, which are called into question as bearers of cultural meanings. Incorporated into the structure of these artworks, primarily sculptures and installations, the aesthetics and historical significance of these objects and materials are revealed as well as their semantic content is analyzed – and this often in terms of a playful interaction of material and language.

Artists: Benjamin Hirte, Sonia Leimer, Christian Kosmas Mayer, Mathias Pöschl, Anne Schneider, Misha Stroj und Michael Hammerschmid. Curated by Stephanie Damianitsch

21.10.2016 – 30.01.2017
