"Hyper Real" at MUMOK

theartVIEw among the huge canvasses of Hyperrealism at the MUMOK. Chuck Close's Richard Serra looks down on you while you can inspect every wrinkle and pimple in his face. Shiny surfaces of works by Richard Estes, Ralph Goings, Don Eddy or photos by William Eggleston or Lee Friedlander are reflecting the all american way of life of the late 60s. What once was shockingly real has now put on an extra layer of nostalgia. The show is extended by works of pop artists like Warhol, Wesselman and Lichtenstein and links to the presence with photographic works by Gursky, Wall, Ruff, Struth and Demand.

Die Schau im MUMOK "Hyper Real" zeigt amerikanischen Fotorealismus vom Ende der 60ger aus den Beständen der Sammlungen Ludwig in Aachen, Wien und Budapest. Erweitert wird die Ausstellung mit Pop Art und Arbeiten von Wall bis Koons und Gursky bis Demand.

PRIVATE WURM at Essl Museum

theartVIEw previewing "PRIVATE WURM" at the Essl Museum in Klosterneuburg. Centrepiece of this show by Erwin Wurm is "The Narrow House" - a detailed replica of the house where Wurm grew up in but shrinked to only one seventh of it's original width. Squeeze yourself in, "walking" through the house gives you a claustrphobic feeling, enjoy the true 70s wall papers and retro design furniture. To give it an extra "homely" touch Wurm has added private photographs of his childhood!
The exhibition is completed with furniture made from retro wardrobes and kitchen cupboards and a giant "Polizeikappe" (police cap), a symbol of authority and protection in Austria. Til Jan 30, 2011.

Das "Schmale Haus" ein getreuer Nachbau des Elternhauses von Erwin Wurm, nur dass es in der Breite auf ein Siebtel (auf knapp mehr als einen Meter) geschrumpft wurde, steht im Mittelpunkt der Schau "PRIVAT WURM" im Essl Museum, Klosterneuburg. Man quetscht sich durch die schmalen Gänge und Zimmerchen und die ebenfalls gestauchte originalgetreue 70er Jahre Einrichtung und die Tapeten verstärken noch das Gefühl der Enge, dass einem das Lachen im Halse stecken bleibt. Ganz neu aus dem Atelier Wurm sind die umgebauten Sitzmöbel aus alten Kleiderschränken und Küchenkastl. Ein weiterer Eyecatcher ist das überdimensionales Polizeikappl, für die österreichische Seele traditionell gleichermaßen Symbol für Staatsauthorität und Schutz durch Vater Staat. Bis zum 30. Jänner 2011.

Galleriewalk in the Inner City, Oct. 16 2010

theartVIEw visits five shows at this gallerywalk in the Inner City of Vienna. Ulrike Hrobsky presents works by Joerg Bach, Wolfgang Exner new paintings by Franziska Maderthaner "Saints and Sinners". At Galerie Lang Martin Krammer shows "Waldwiener" - wooden sculptures and paintings on wood. Lukas Feichter has a show with Adam Bota's paintings and in the basement new photo and video works by various artists. And finally Heike Curtze presents works by Gerold Tusch.

Galerienrundgang im 1. Bezirk: Ulrike Hrobsky zeigt Arbeiten von Jörg Bach, Wolfgang Exner neue Gemälde von Franziska Maderthaner "Saints and Sinners". Galerie Lang zeigt Martin Krammers "Waldwiener". Bei Lukas Feichter sind großformatige Gemälden von Adam Bota zu sehen und im Keller neue Foto- und Videoarbeiten von verschiedenen Künstlern. Heike Curtze zeigt Keramikarbeiten von Gerold Tusch.

VALIE EXPORT at Unteres Belvedere

theartVIEw - VALIE EXPORT "Time and Countertime" at Unteres Belvedere shows mostly multi media works from the last two decades and a brand new statue made for this occasion. Parallel opened a second exhibition with VALIE EXPORT's works at the Lentos in Linz.

VALIE EXPORT "Zeit und Gegenzeit" zeigt im Unteren Belvedere vornämlich Video- und Multimediaarbeiten der letzten zwei Jahrzehnte und im Garten vor dem Gebäude eine neue Skulptur. Parallel dazu eröffnet eine zweite Ausstellung zum 70sten Geburtstag von VALIE EXPORT im Lentos in Linz.

Michelangelo The Drawings of a Genius at ALBERTINA

theartVIEw at the Albertina, where more than a hundred of Michelangelo's precious drawings are on display. The biggest exhibition of of works by the genius since twenty years shows how pioneering he was not only in his art but also shaped the picture of the modern artist in society.

In der Albertina zeigt mit über hundert Werken die größte Michelangelo Schau seit 20 Jahren. In der Ausstellung werden nicht nur die kunstgeschichtlichen Neuerungen durch dieses Genie aufgezeigt sondern auch deutlich, wie er das Bild des modernen Künstlers entscheidend geformt hat.

Helmut Palla "You take a seat, I take a picture." at Semper Depot

theartVIEw meets Helmut Palla at Semper Depot, where he takes a pictures of willing art lovers seated on one of his objects. Volunteers could chose from numerous beautiful sculptures made of used chairs in the exhibition and the output is displayed on Facebook....

In einem temporären Studio im Semper Depot fotografiert Helmut Palla die Besucher seiner Ausstellung von Möbelskulpturen nach dem Motto "You take a seat, I take a picture." mit einem von ihnen ausgesuchten Objekt (bis 10. 0kt. 2010). Die Bilder sind anschliessend auf Facebook zu bewundern...

Bruce Conner "The 70s" at Kunsthalle Wien

theartVIEw dives into Bruce Conners "The 70s". The Kunsthalle Wien shows paintings and films by one of the pioneers of today's visual film language we all know from MTV. Although he was friends with the big names of the Beat Generation and Hollywood like Jack Kerouac and Dennis Hopper and influenced several generations of artists and filmmakers he has remained an insider’s tip.

Die Kunsthalle Wien zeigt Bilder und Filme von Bruce Conner. Conner hatte schon unter den Dichtern der Beat Generation wie Jack Kerouac und unter den Stars des neuen Hollywoods viele Freunde, beeinflusste mit seiner Filmästhetik mehrere Generationen von jüngeren Künstlern und Filmemachern vom zum Punk und bis heute. Trotzdem ist er ein Insidertipp geblieben.

"Judith & Shields.!" and "Sava.! Seculic" at Art/Brut Center Gugging

theartVIEw has a look at two new exhibitions in the Art/Brut Center in Gugging. The Center shows works of every day objects eleborately decorated and covered with fabrics and yarn by Judith Scott together with tribal art from New Guinea - war shields beautifully decorated with abstract designs full of underlying magical meaning. A small extra show is dedicated to the Serbian artist Sava Seculic.

Das Art/Brut Center Gugging zeigt Werke von Judith Scott, die Alltagsgegenstände mit Stoffresten und Wollfäden in Kunstobjekte transformierte zusammen mit Kriegsschilden aus dem Hochland Neu Guineas, die mit ihrer magischen abstrakten Bemalung beeindrucken. Eine kleiner Ausstellung zeigt Werke des 1989 verstorbenen Serbischen Malers Sava Seculic.
