Kunsthalle Wien and Wiener Festwochen present the joint exhibition And if I devoted my life to one of its feathers?, which combines works by more than 35 artists from around the world, located everywhere from the Amazon region to Australia, from Guatemala to India. Their works seek not only to awaken public consciousness to the realities of environmental exploitation and destruction, but also to question and to deconstruct traditional Western patriarchal models, gender roles, and enduring colonial and racist discourses and invites the visitors to take part in a unique conversation about power, sovereignty, self-representation, and the reclaiming of a plurality of life choices. 15.05. – 26.9.2021.

And if I devoted my life to one of its feathers?, eine gemeinsame Ausstellung der Kunsthalle Wien und der Wiener Festwochen verbindet Werke von über 35 Künstler*innen aus aller Welt – vom Amazonasgebiet bis Australien, von Guatemala bis Indien. Mit ihren Arbeiten wollen sie nicht nur das Bewusstsein der Öffentlichkeit für die Realitäten der Umweltausbeutung und -zerstörung wecken, sondern auch traditionelle westliche patriarchale Modelle, Geschlechterrollen und fortbestehende koloniale und rassistische Diskurse hinterfragen und dekonstruieren und laden die Besucher*innen damit ein zu einem einzigartigen Gespräch über Macht, Selbstbestimmung und die Rückeroberung vielfältiger Lebensentwürfe. 15.05. – 26.9.2021.

Maria Hassabi: HERE at SECESSION

Vienna Secession and Wiener Festwochen present a newly commissioned work by artist and choreographer Maria Hassabi: HERE. The live installation invites visitors to share time and presence with six dancers in the Secession’s iconic exhibition hall. Over several weeks they will navigate a choreography that unfolds at a decelerated pace within a sculptural environment. Embedded in a sound composition, a female voice counting the seconds from 1 to 14,399 fades in and out, underlining the eternal succession of time. Immersed in this continuum, the dancers’ movements create a situation of everchanging presence, one that demonstrates the slippery nature of “here-ness.” May 14 – June 20, 2021.

Die Secession Wien und die Wiener Festwochen präsentieren eine Auftragsarbeit der Künstlerin und Choreografin Maria Hassabi. Ihre Live-Installation HERE lädt Besucher*innen ein, während der Öffnungszeiten den Ausstellungs­raum mit sechs Tänzer*innen zu teilen. Über mehrere Wochen hinweg folgen diese einer Choreografie, die sich in gedehnt langsamem Tempo in der skulpturalen Installation entfaltet. Eingebettet in eine Soundkomposition taucht eine weibliche Stimme auf und verebbt wieder; sie zählt von 1 bis 14.399 die Sekunden und unterstreicht so das stetige Fortschreiten der Zeit. Innerhalb dieses Kontinuums zeichnen die entschleunigten Bewegungen der Tänzer*innen ein Szenario sich beständig verändernder Gegenwart, das auf die schwer greifbare Natur des „Hier“ verweist. 14.05. - 20.06.2021.

Elfie Semotan at Kunst Haus Wien

On the occasion of her 80th birthday KUNST HAUS WIEN is paying tribute to the famous Austrian Photographer Elfie Semotan with a comprehensive retrospective. The exhibition Position and Pose spans six decades of her diverse artistic oeuvre, on show are some 150 works, ranging from her well-known fashion and advertising shots to haunting portraits, poetic landscapes, and still lifes. 05.05.-29.08.21
