Heimo Zobernig at mumok

With this show mumok places the emphasis on Zobernig’s paintings, with select recent groups of works. The artist designed the exhibition architecture himself. Since the beginning of his artistic practice in the early 1980s, the artist has built up a comprehensive painterly oeuvre, always based on his attempt to explore color like a “scientist.” Thus, in Zobernig’s work, painting has become a machine for the creation of insight. Characteristics of the artist’s method in this context are strategies of simplification, standardization, and systematization using predefined rules and the artistic appropriation of industrial norms and widespread samples. mumok zeigt ausgewählten Werkblöcken von Heimo Zobernig der letzten Jahre mit Schwerpunkt auf Malerei in einer von Künstler konzipierten Ausstellungsarchitektur. Dabei versucht Zobernig die Farbe wie ein „Wissenschaftler“ zu erforschen. So wird die Malerei bei Zobernig zu einer Maschine für die Produktion von Erkenntnissen. Charakteristisch für das Vorgehen des Künstlers in diesem Zusammenhang sind Strategien der Vereinfachung, Normierung und Systematisierung durch Anwendung von festgelegten Regeln sowie die künstlerische Aneignung von industriellen Normen und weit verbreiteten Mustern. Lovis Corinth at Upper Belvedere

„Life, a Celebration!“ at the Upper Belvedere show the many facets of Lovis Corinth’ work:  from eroticism thematized in nude portraits and vanitas symbolism, his slaughterhouse paintings to landscape and floral paintings. Especially noteworthy in this show are his portraits and self portraits. This exhibition will subsequently travel to the Saarlandmuseum in Saarbrücken in November 2021. Curated by Alexander Klee. „Das Leben, ein Fest“ im Oberen Belvedere zeigt die vielen Facetten in Lovis Corinths Schaffen:  von erotischen Szenen und Vanitas Symbolismus, seinen Schlachthaus Bildern bis zu Landschaften und floralen Motiven. Besondere Beachtung verdienen aber die Portraits und Selbstportraits. This exhibition will subsequently travel to the Saarlandmuseum in Saarbrücken in November 2021. Curated by Alexander Klee. Mark Dion has installed a whole „Flea Market and other Object Lessons“ at the Gallery Georg Kargl. Christine König shows works by Ovidiu Anton. Very contrary positions by Cäcilia Brown and Imi Knoebel are to be seen at Gallery Gabriele Senn.
