WALLY NEUZIL Her Life with Egon Schiele at LEOPOLD MUSEUM
The exhibition "WALLY NEUZIL Her Life with Egon Schiele" at the LEOPOLD MUSEUM seeks to uncover the person behind the painters model Walburga “Wally” Neuzil (1894-1917), approaching her through artworks, autographs, photographs and documents. The exhibition examines the stages of Wally’s life, her professions, from model to nurse, and tells the tale of a woman’s fate in fin-de-siècle Vienna, between self-sacrifice and self-fulfillment, between a life without taboos and profound humanity. Wally Neuzil was not only Egon Schiele’s model from early 1911 but also his girlfriend and faithful companion until the spring of 1915 and played a key role in Schiele’s life and works. Die Ausstellung "WALLY NEUZIL Ihr Leben mit Egon Schiele" im LEOPOLD MUSEUM nähert sich der Person des berühmtesten Schiele Models Walburga »Wally« Neuzil (1894–1917) anhand von Kunstwerken, Autografen, Fotos und Dokumenten. Die Schau widmet sich neben bedeutenden Gemälden von Schiele und Zeichnungen und Aquarelle des Künstlers, für die Wally Modell stand, ihren Lebensstationen, ihren Berufen, vom Modell bis zur Krankenpflegerin, und schildert das Schicksal einer Frau im Wien der Jahrhundertwende, zwischen Aufopferung und Selbstverwirklichung, zwischen Tabulosigkeit und tiefer Mitmenschlichkeit. Wally Neuzil war seit Anfang 1911 nicht nur als Modell für Egon Schiele tätig, sondern zugleich bis ins Frühjahr 1915 hinein seine Freundin und treue Gefährtin und spielte eine Schlüsselrolle im Leben und Werk Schieles. 27. The material basis for the most technologically developed weapons and tools – a class of 17 ‘rare earth’ elements from the periodic table found in everything from mobile phones to computer hard drives. Mit RARE EARTH präsentiert Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary eine thematische Gruppenausstellung von 17 künstlerische Positionen. Die Ausstellung geht den begehrten Rohstoffen, die für die Erzeugung neuester technologischer „Gadgets“ bis hin zu modernen medizinischen Technologien wie auch Waffen benötigt werden, auf den Grund. Ausgangspunkt ist jeweils eines der 17 Elemente der Seltenen Erden (rare earth elements) des Periodensystems, die in allen Geräten des Alltags zu finden sind. STURTEVANT at ALBERTINA
The ALBERTINA presents the world’s first ever major museum exhibition of the drawings of Sturtevant, an American artist and the originator of Appropriation art. "Drawing Double Reversal" shows a total of 100 drawings, prints and images starting in the early 1960s when she repeated works by Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Frank Stella oder Joseph Beuys in a close timly connection with the originals and often with the consent of the artists. Curators: Mario Kramer, Antonia Hoerschelmann, Elsy Lahner. 14 February 2015 - 10 May 2015.
Die ALBERTINA präsentiert in den neuen, 450 Quadratmeter großen Tietze Galleries for Prints and Drawings "STURTEVANT Drawing Double Reversal" das zeichnerische Werk der 1924 geborenen und 2014 verstorbenen US-Amerikanerin Elaine Sturtevant. Bereits seit den frühen 1960er Jahren hat Sturtevant Werke von Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Frank Stella oder Joseph Beuys zeitnah zur Entstehung der Originale bewusst wiederholt. Mit dieser ästhetischen Geste wirft sie die Frage nach Kreativität, Originalität und geistigem Eigentum von Kunst auf und begründet die Appropriation Art.
